Andrew Blacker, a 10-year resident of Noank and the owner of breakfast/lunch café Carson's Store, has put his unique stamp on another iconic village location with the opening in June of Palmer's Provisions and Pizza. The shop, located at 17 Pearl St. in the former location of the Universal Food Store, started slowly, serving only grinders in its first few weeks. On July 1, it started serving pizza and was in full swing.

Throughout the village, Noank’s streets are steeped in history. The newest occupant of the storefront at 17 Pearl St. not only has inherited a notable provenance, but it’s bringing Noank’s centuries-old history alive with many pieces and reminders of its past.

Visiting Noank, Connecticut on a hot summer day is a nostalgic trip to classic New England. This charming fishing and lobstering village has become one of my new favorite places in Connecticut… Palmers Provisions and Pizza isn’t just about food—they have apparel, totes, accessories, souvenirs, and locally published books. These unique finds will remind you of Noank long after you’ve left.

Palmer Shipyard, now Noank Shipyard, was at the mouth of the Mystic River. Having launched over 1000 vessels, the yard was one of the biggest wooden shipbuilding yards on the east coast. At one point the yard employed over 600 workers and skilled craftsmen. One of the big reasons Electric Boat eventually opened in Groton was due to the the abundance’s of skilled ship builders and and laborers in the area. Named after the shipyard, Palmer’s Provisions & Pizza is filled with relics of the area’s wooden shipbuilding history, and offers food and snacks that are perfect to bring out on your boat!
